Floating Green on Lake Coeur d’Alene

Stepping foot on a golf course has its challenges but one never thinks about how they are going to get from the tee box to the green. A traditional golf cart would be the no-brainer option if you were at any other “normal” golf course.  However, the 14th hole at Coeur d’Alene Resort Golf Course is more than just a challenging par 3.  Ranging in yardage of 95 to 218 yards depending on which tee box markers you use.

This hole has become an icon in the golf world, with the unique feature of the floating green, on a 15,000 square foot, 2,300-ton island.  To add misery to the challenge, the green is guarded by bunkers, one off the front right and one on the backside of the green.  Most golfers take multiple attempts to it the green, then take a drop on the island green if necessary.

The famed 14th green is also referred to as the world’s only movable green.  Each day the green is positioned using a system of computer-controlled cables.

Give golfers a new challenge each time they play.  If you are one of the lucky ones to hit the green, it will be a memory with a story to last a lifetime.  If you are one of those who have the uncanny ability to find water, you won’t be alone.  As there are thousands of golf balls recovered from the lake each season.

To get to the green you will be shuttled out on the Coeur d’Alene Resort Golf Course fairy named “The Putter”.  During your cruise out to the green, you will hear insights into how the green came to life and the history of the stunning par 3.

Although best known for its world-famous floating 14th hole green, this Scott Miller designed course has been ranked among the best resort golf courses in the United States by Golf Digest and others.  It was also a featured course in Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2005 video game.

The course has a total yardage of 6,803 from Gold, and 6,355 blue tee markers, with Par at 71.  Providing 18 holes of challenging but fun golf. With a course rating of 71.8 (blue) and a slope rating of 127 (blue). The resort is located in northwest Idaho, about 40mins east of Spokane, Washington.

But book your stay and especially your tee time well ahead of your visit, as they fill up fast and far in advance.
